Methodology

Scope

NAMs Atlas covers technologies, companies, deals, regulation and research for non-animal and animal-sparing methods in drug development and chemical safety. Company coverage is limited to tool, platform and service companies. Therapeutics companies that use NAMs internally appear in updates only.

Sources

Every item links to a public source: regulator and company releases, filings, peer-reviewed papers and trade press. Bibliographic data for papers comes from PubMed. Summaries are written in our own words.

Confidence tags

• Confirmed: primary source, such as a regulator, filing or company release.
• Reported: secondary source, such as trade press or market databases, or company claims not independently verified.
• Estimate: modeled or third-party estimates, such as market size reports.

Coverage and limits

Deal and company coverage starts in January 2023 and grows weekly. It is not a census. Undisclosed amounts are excluded from totals. Market-size figures are shown to illustrate disagreement, not to endorse a number.

Update cadence

New items are collected every Monday from regulators, journals, press releases and trade press. The curator reviews each item before it is published.
